'Rembrandt: The Late Works' opens this week! Stand before masterpieces by the artist created in his final years, such as this intimate painting 'Portrait of a Couple as Isaac and Rebecca, known as 'The Jewish Bride''.

Rembrandt's 'A Woman bathing in a Stream (Hendrickje Stoffels?)' joined the Gallery early on in 1831.

We are thrilled to announce an incredible last minute addition to 'Rembrandt: The Late Works'. His ambitious painting 'The Conspiracy of the Batavians under Claudius Civilis' (about 1661–2), will be coming to the Gallery. It will be the first time this powerful artwork has been shown in the UK.

'The Three Crosses' is one Rembrandt's most dynamic prints and will be on display as part of Rembrandt: The Late Works.

The print went through five different states. This first state is printed on an unusual and expensive support of vellum (treated calf-skin) and shows Rembrandt using both etching and a technique called drypoint. Book tickets to see it in person: http://ow.ly/BDoYi

Rembrandt died on this day aged 63 in 1669. The cause of death is no longer known. He was buried in an anonymous rented grave in the Westerkerk.
