Artist: Francesco Faraone Aquila (Italian, Palermo 1676–1740 Rome). Artist: After Gian Lorenzo Bernini (Italian, Naples 1598–1680 Rome). Date: 1690–1740.

Aquila’s etching of the equestrian statue of Constantine the Great by Gian Lorenzo Bernini shows the sculpture in its niche by the Scala Regia in the Vatican Palace. The statue depicts the emperor at the moment when he has his vision of the Holy Cross, right before the battle of the Milvian bridge.
